FAMILY PROMISE  –  Our church will once again be participating in the Family Promise of the Lakeshore program.  This is a faith based program that allows homeless families to stay together at a terribly difficult time in their lives.  We will be hosting families in our church during the week of July 15th through July 22nd
 
As those of you who have helped in the past are aware, it takes many hands to make this event successful.  Thank you so much to all of our past volunteers for donating their time and resources to this very important ministry.  We appreciate it so much. 
There are opportunities for everyone to help, whether donating food, providing transportation, moving beds from the previous church, cleaning the church, cooking a meal, doing laundry, or staying overnight in our church with the families.  We do provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the families so a lot of food needs to be prepared.  Breakfast typically consists of handheld items such as muffins, pastries, granola bars, fruit, or hard boiled eggs.  Our families need to leave the church by 7:00 a.m. so there isn’t much time for breakfast.  They typically grab something and eat in the bus on the way to the day center.  Lunch typically consists of a sandwich, snack, and fruit.  This is sent along with the families to the day center.
Planning the amount of food is difficult since families leave the program as housing is found for them and new families join as space in the program becomes available.  This can happen during the week we are hosting the families so we will need to be flexible on the amount of people we will be housing and feeding on any given day.  We will make every effort to contact volunteers before they cook or donate food so they will know how much food to prepare or donate.  
There is a volunteer sign-up sheet on the table in the lobby along with a donation sheet for breakfast/luncheon items.  If you would like to help but are not able to donate your time or a food item, monetary donations are appreciated.  Please mark “Family Promise” on one of the envelopes in the pews and turn in to the offering plate. 
If you are signing up to be an evening or overnight host, there is a sheet with a brief overview of the responsibilities on the table in the lounge.

Church Rummage Sale
Date: September 14 and 15, 2018.
Donations will be accepted the week of the event (preferred) or we do have limited storage at the church for those that need to bring things in early. For early drop off, please contact a committee member to arrange a time.

Volunteers are always needed and appreciated!  Please come prepared for the weather.....sun screen, hats, rain coat, boots, mittens...whatever the weather brings  This is an outdoor event.   Volunteers are asked to be at church approximately 5:00p.m. for the Wednesday trucks and 12:00 noon for the Saturday truck.


ENJOY THE CONVENIENCE OF ELECTRONIC GIVING
Samuel wants to inform you that we will be offering electronic giving as a way to automate your regular weekly offering. Electronic giving offers convenience for individual congregation members and provides much-needed donation consistency for our congregation.  Authorization forms are available on the table in the narthex (lobby) or from Melissa Pfenning, Merry Nyblade, or the church office.   By filling out the form you will be authorizing your financial institution to electronically deposit the amount of money you choose to Samuel Lutheran Church.   You will have a choice of depositing weekly (on Monday), monthly on the 1st, or monthly on the 15th.  At the present time we have two (2) funds set up for you to choose from: the Current Fund and the Maintenance & Repair Fund.
